Anyone seen this new thermostat http://www.nest.com/living-with-nest/ will be very interesting to see how the new Lightwaverf thermostat will compare. The Nest looks like it has some very clever software, but no room control.

    Cheers Andy

What a find and thank you,ive been waiting six months for lightwave to produce this but having read their latest update which in reality looks like it wont see the light of day until late 2012.

And what a choice will be ordering one tomorrow.

I have the basic Heatmiser thermostat which has no WiFi connection but otherwise is the same as that shown. It works OK but the screen is not very sensitive for the necessary touch control, it does not stay lit for long and it can be frustrating trying to change the temperature as just pressing on the up or down arrow does not always work, you have to press a little harder and it’s easy to press another button by mistake. You get used to it but even then working it is not wonderful. I’d rather wait for Ligthwave’s plus then no doubt have a complete system where all radiators can be controlled from my iPhone.

We have 2 of the Heatmiser thermostats, one for the upstairs heating loop and one for downstairs. They work really well and Heatmiser customer service is really good as well. As for the button sensitivity, I’m not sure if you have a slightly faulty screen on yours or if the WiFi Stat uses a different touch screen as we have had no such issues with ours.

If you do install these there is a nice piece of 3rd party software which allow you to track temps and heating activations:

I have seen other comments elsewhere similar to mine. It works fine once you get used to knowing how to press but I can see the less nimble fingered having problems. I do not have two circuits for my heating, hence another reason to await the arrival of the Lightwaverf heating gear as I will then be able to control every room individually and no need to worry about a separate circuit for upstairs.

      Hi,

For those who have the non-wifi version, how do you control the heatmiser thermostats?

Can they be done remotely/iphone? I understood you could only do this with the wifi versions.

      Thanks,
      Nimesh

The none WiFi Heatmiser cannot be controlled remotely. I have mine as a free standing thermostat in the lounge. It is programmed for each day of the week and can have two on offs in the day. If you want more heat just pick it up and touch the up arrow until it reads the temperature you want. It then sends a signal to the receiver which switches the boiler.

What appeals to me about the forthcoming Lightwaverf heating system is that every room and every radiator can be controlled remotely and using your iPhone. If you want heat in the study but not in the lounge you can have it. Far better control than a couple of central heating zones and/or TVRs which you have to walk round adjusting. If you are away for a few days you do not need to be concerned with time clocks but can wherever you are (provided you have an internet connection) switch the heating or lights on in time for your return. You will still of course have a fall back frost protection to override things if it gets too cold whilst you are away.
